Acupuncture Muswell Hill:
Acupuncture Muswell Hill is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly two thousand years. Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at pain and illness as signs that the body is out of balance.
The overall aim of acupuncture treatment is to restore the body’s equilibrium, as physical, emotional and mental symptoms are seen as interdependent.
The theory behind acupuncture treatment is that the healthy functioning of the body is governed by the flow of “qi”, (often translated as “energy”), through a system of channels under the skin. When this flow of qi is impaired, illness occurs. By inserting fine needles at various points along the channels, the body’s balance can be restored and the illness resolve.
Treatments – We have two Acupuncturists at Muswell Health, Claire Frost and Kieran Howse.
Claire treats a wide range complaints and symptoms and has a special interest in Women’s health conditions including Acupuncture for menstrual issues, Acupuncture for fertility, Acupuncture during pregnancy, and induction of labour. Other conditions Claire commonly treats include musculoskeletal conditions such as backache, neck and shoulder pain, and sports injuries. Focus is on the individual. Treating each patient as an individual is key to treating with acupuncture and vital in assisting the body to rebalance.
Claire is a member of the British Acupuncture Council. The British Acupuncture Council maintains and oversees the high standards of education, ethics, discipline and practice in acupuncture
Kieran trained in Traditional Chines Medicine (TCM) which originated in China over 2000 years ago and includes Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. TCM theory is rooted in the Taoist concept of Yin and Yang, with a holistic approach to diagnosis, treatment and health maintenance. TCM is used to treat a wide range of conditions, taking into account the effects of diet, lifestyle and the emotions, and any imbalances they may have caused.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine needles in specific points of the body in order to improve the circulation, removing any blockages of energy (Qi) which may be causing pain or health problems, and stimulating the body’s natural healing response. Needles are usually retained for 20 – 25 minutes.
Chinese Herbal Medicine can be taken in tea of capsule form and is often suitable for chronic, complex conditions, alongside acupuncture treatment. Different herbs have unique properties which are used to rebalance the internal system and promote a favourable environment for the body to function normally.

A growing body of evidence-based clinical research is discovering how the body responds to acupuncture and its benefits for a wide range of common health conditions. A lot of people have acupuncture to relieve specific aches and pains, such as osteoarthritis of the knee, TMJ, headaches and low back pain, or for common health problems like an overactive bladder. Other people choose acupuncture when they can feel their bodily functions are out of balance, but they have no obvious diagnosis. And many have regular treatments because they find it so beneficial and relaxing.
